All unopened products have a shelf life of 2 years. Once the products are opened and mixed they should remain stable for 6 months. If some cream separation does occur (this could happen after exposure to very high or low temperatures) just use a clean stick to gently stir the contents and they should easily blend back into one smooth and consistent cream. Just note that as with any creams with active ingredients, the longer they are exposed to air and sitting on your shelf, the less potent the actives will get.
This depends on how much product you use, and how frequently you use it. For our personalized creams we expect it to last around 1 month with regular twice daily usage.
Our base cream is specially formulated to have no discernible scent and no added fragrance. For our actives, since these are naturally derived some of them may have a slight, and for the most part barely discernible, scent.
Products with sunblock are highly regulated by the FDA and cannot be used in a personalized system such as ours. For a sunblock to be approved by the FDA it has to undergo rigorous testing in the finished form – hence no personalized cream can legally make an SPF claim. However, we are working on creating a simple sunblock to be used in conjunction with our personalized creams during the day. We’ll keep you posted.
The FDA only approves of two ingredients, salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, for acne. To make an acne claim falls under stricter regulation than regular cosmetic claims and hence, similar to SPF, cannot be used in a personalized system such as ours. To be approved by the FDA the products must undergo strict efficacy tests in the final form in which it will be sold. In a personalized system with all different kind of permutations such test are not feasible. We do encourage people with breakout prone skin to still try our non-comedogenic products and see if it works for them. Many of our actives have wonderful oil control and anti-bacterial properties that may help the occasional sufferer of breakouts.
At the moment are products are 100% naturally derived – you can see all our ingredients here. This is due to our focus on safety proven over time, meaning an ingredient should have a long history of use in the cosmetic and/or food industry with no documented negative reactions (except there are some rare cases of allergic reactions – such as someone having an allergy to coconuts or sunflowers). You can learn more about our take on naturals here.
We do not like the term “clean beauty” though by all random definitions of the term we can technically be defined as such. Click here to learn more about our views on this topic.
Yes. Our products contain no animal-sourced materials.
All our products have been tested on people, not animals (other than the human species to be technical here).
For the safety of all involved, our products contain a highly effective, safe and natural preservative. This is really important if you do not want to see harmful mold, bacteria and yeast growing in your products. However, the preservative found in our base cream and many of our actives is a really cool compound extracted from bananas!
We have sent our base cream to be tested in a third-party laboratory for safety and sensitivity testing. The products are applied onto the skin of adult human volunteers over the course of several weeks to confirm that no irritation occurs. Additionally, the products have been tested for shelf-life stability and efficacy of the preservation. For our actives it is not feasible to test all possible 50 million plus iterations. Therefor we rely on the sensitivity test data of each individual active alone.
All our ingredients and actives have been evaluated for safety and toxicology, the results of which indicate safety and compliance with US standards and regulation.
Most are ingredients and actives have passed full toxilogical and safety testing for US standards. However, the White Willow Bark Active does contain natural Salicylates and the Scientific Committee of Consumer Safety does not recommend the use of salicylates on children under the age of 3.
Yes. Our products are formulated to maintain stability for two years at room temperature under normal circumstances unopened. If the product is subjected to excessive heat or cold for short periods of time, it will not impact the product’s efficacy, though it may result in some changes to the cream texture. However, we do recommend not leaving the opened and mixed creams for more than three months as some evaporation and decreased Active efficacy can occur after prolonged air exposure.
